The 1,145km2 Mount Elgon national park protects the higher slopes of Mount Elgon, an extinct volcano, on the Uganda-Kenya border. The mountain, which measures 80km in diameter, once towered above Kilimanjaro’s current 5900m. Hot, dusty plains of karamoja to provide a cool respite for humans and a refuge flora and fauna.

DAY 1: DEPARTURE TO KAPCHORWA.

After breakfast, we drive to Eastern Uganda while we cross the mighty River Nile in Jinja and the proceed to Kapchorwa for an over night.

DAY 2: SASA RIVER CAMP – MUDE CAVE.

On this day we start our adventure safari as we get beliefed about hikihg tips by a well trained park ranger. Sasa is a trail and the most direct route to the peaks. It’s trail heads to Budadiri gate which lies at 1,250m above sea level. We shall then drive as far as Bumasola trading Center and start walking. The trek here is a restively stiff climb of 2 km. We later ascend to Mude Camp for a night.

DAY 3: MUDE WAVE – WAGAGAI PEAK.

In the morning,  we hike to Mude Cave and climb to Wagagai peak  which is the heighest peak of the mountain at an elevation of 4321m above sea level. Later, we descend to Mude Cave Camp for the night.

DAY 4: HUNTER’S CAVE CAMP.

From Mude Cave, We descend to the Caldera and hot springs and later head to the Hunter’s Cave.

DAY 5: HUNTER’S CAVE CAMP – PISWA CAMPING GROUNDS.

From Hunter’s cave, we decend to Piswa Patrol Hut, a scenic hike through the Bamboo, Heath & Moorland.

DAY 6: PISWA PATROL HUT – KAPKWATA.

From Piswa patrol Hut, We descend to Kapkwata where the trail ends. You will then meet up with your guide and drive back to Kampala.
